Master Al-Nasser

1941311_261516270701438_6623986974060252733_oMaster Al-Nasser (5th dan HKD) began his martial arts training by studying Southern-style Praying Mantis Gung Fu at the Bamboo Monastery in Minneapolis, Minnesota under Art Wong and Tommy Wong in 1982. In 1984, he studied Kali, Jeet Kune Do and Muay Thai under Rick Faye of the Minnesota Kali Association. In 1986, he studied Moo Duk Kwan Taekwondo under David Hubbard and finally in 1996, Master Al-Nasser began studying Hapkido, the art in which he has chosen to concentrate his martial arts training. He is also a direct student of Grandmaster Myung Jae Ok, the founder of Hoi Jeon Moo Sool and holds an instructor certificate in HJMS.

1982: Commenced study of Southern-style Praying Mantis (南派螳螂) at the Bamboo Monastery in Minneapolis, Minnesota under Art Wong and Tommy Wong.

1984: Commenced study of Kali at the Minnesota Kali Association under Rick Faye.

1986: Commenced private study of Moo Duk Kwan Taekwondo (무덕관 태권도) under David Hubbard (3rd dan).

1996: Commenced study of Hapkido at the Won Ki Kwan (원기관) in Deephaven, Minnesota under Shin Hoon (7th dan).

March – April, 2001: Received private Hapkido – Sun Mu Kwan training in Busan, Korea by Yoon Il-Bong.

April 10, 2001: Founded Sun Mu Kwan – USA in Los Angeles, California.

June 2003: Private Hankido training by Myung Sung Kwang (명성광) in Yong-In, Korea.

November 2004: Private training in Hoi Jeon Moo Sool (회전무술) taught by Myung Jae Ok (명재옥).

July 1, 2005: Changed school name to Ji Yong Kwan (지용관/智勇館).

August 11, 2005: Received school recognition (No. 1469) and letter of appointment (No. 210500) as an instructor by Myung Sung Kwang (명성광) of the International HKD Federation – Jaenam Musul Won.

June 5-12, 2006: Private training in Hoi Jeon Moo Sool (회전무술) by Myung Jae Ok (명재옥).

November 30, 2006 – December 6, 2006: Traveled to the Kingdom of Bahrain at the invitation of the Bahrain Hapkido Centre.

October 28, 2011: Volunteered with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Emergency Operations Bureau – Muslim Community Affairs unit providing a self-defense workshop for Muslim youth at the La Mirada Masjid, La Mirada, California.

December 2, 2011: Volunteered with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Emergency Operations Bureau – Muslim Community Affairs unit providing a self-defense workshop for Muslim youth and adults at the King Fahad Mosque, Culver City, California.

February 11, 2012: Awarded rank of 4th dan by the International HKD Federation.

March 15, 2012: Awarded HJMS instructor certification from Grandmaster Myung Jae Ok, the founder of the World Hoi Jeon Moo Sool Federation.

December 4, 2012: Awarded rank of 5th dan by the Korea Moo Moo Kwan Hapkido Association.

January 4, 2013: Received an Outstanding Leadership Award.

January 5, 2013: Awarded rank of 5th dan.

March 29, 2013: Received International Referee class “C-1” certification.

August 23, 2013: Founded Hanmi Moo Sool Won (한미무술원/韓美武術院).

April 8, 2014: Appointed Cultural Ambassador by the Gangwon Gam Yeong Properties Committee Chairman, Jae Hwan Kim.

July 26, 2014: Awarded a proclamation and key to the city of Springfield, Michigan.

August 13, 2016: Appointed as an “Honorary Citizen” of Pattaya, Thailand by Mayor Itthipol Khunplome.

November 27, 2016: Received International Referee class “A-3” certification.

December 18, 2016: Received the Best Mugunghwa Peace Award & Martial Arts Award from the World Culture Exchange Foundation in Seoul, Korea.
